Description

Francisella tularensis Screen – Tularemia is a plague-like disease in humans. The most common form presents as ulceroglandular skin lesion, usually as a result of a tick bite with localized lymphadenopathy present. The next most common form is glandular, which is characterized by regional lymphadenopathy and the absence of a skin lesion. Oculoglandular, pharyngeal, intestinal, pneumonic and typhoidal Tularemia are other common forms which are related to the portal of entry, systemic involvement and immune status of the patient. An aerosol release of Francisella tularensis usually results in an acute illness with pharyngitis, bronchiolitis, pleuropneumonitis and/or hilar lymphadenitis along with varied systemic illnesses. Often, however, inhalation exposure initially results in systemic illness without prominent evidence of respiratory disease.
